What to know
about Cambodia:

  • Camodian (also called Khmer) cuisine is one of the most fine but sadly still overlooked cuisines. Meals usually consists of subtle curries and fresh flavours. Compared to its neighbouring cuisines, Cambodian dishes contain less chilli and sugar, and more aromatic spices such as cardamom, star anise, cloves, and nutmeg for instance.

When in Cambodia, in some delicious curries and its fresh fruits and vegetables. Amok is a popular dish, while Samlor Korkor is a local’s favorite. Nom Krok, small coconut pancakes, and Bamboo Sticky Rice are lovely treats and not to be missed. Be curious and ask your tour host which delicacies and snacks or dishes to try and taste - there is plenty to enjoy.

For this tour, we make sure to show you an array of meals and foods, whether it is street food or fine restaurants that draw on Cambodia's culinary heritage and/ or fusion it with modern cuisine.

Read here why in Cambodia "Have you eaten rice yet?“ is a common greeting.

  • At tova travel, we always respect the culture of the destinations we travel to, and we recommend you inform yourself independently too, before you board on a trip with us.

We recommend to pack a few casual clothes, shorts, dresses or skirts are fine in cities like Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. When visiting rural Cambodia, please avoid exposing your midriff or wearing micro-minis, but other than that, dress for your comfort level and to stay cool. We recommend natural fibres like linnen and cotton.

When visiting the temples, all visitors should cover upper body, shoulders and knees, otherwise you are not allowed to visit and rejected by guards.

  • In Cambodia, there are two distinct seasons: dry (October to late April) and wet (May to late September).

Within each season there are variations in temperature, with the final few dry months leading up to the wet season (March and April) and the early months of the wet season (May and June) usually being the hottest of the year with temperatures in excess of 35°C at times.

Humidity is at its highest during March and April whilst the coolest months of the year tend to be between October and December, with temperatures around 24°C-26°C.

Our tours take in consideration these varying seasons.

  • Cambodia's official currency is the Riel (also called Khmer Riel), however, the US Dollar is widely used as well. We recommend to bring US dollars in small denominations and the bills should be in pristine conditions, otherwise they may be rejected.

Experience the beauty of Cambodia, genuinely and with your local host. An unforgettable experience.

We are not visitors - we live and breathe a culture.

For each trip to all of our offered itineraries, we have decided to travel in small groups of minimum 2 travellers (plus a host) and maximum 7 travellers (plus one host). Some of the small group trips are even smaller, please see all country pages. This allows us to be present for you, and you to be part of a group as opposed to be part of an anonymous tour. • All of our accommodations on our tours in Sri Lanka are audited by our tour operator and meet our quality standard. The accommodations on all tours range from boutique hotels to beautiful quality accommodations that feature interesting sustainability concepts, and we choose quality accommodations that exude local charm, high-end hotels and generally opt for smaller and intimate accommodations that are also not in the main touristy spots. We make sure to include a mix of all of these depending on the length of the tour and destination. Staying in pure luxury hotels throughout the trip would increase the tour price significantly, and we would like to keep the price in a range that is accessible for all travellers.
